Dormet: Spicy Chicken Noodles
I'm starting a new class of "dormet" (dorm gourmet) recipes that cater to college kids and military dorm rats (of which I was one for several years). These recipes will use common simple ingredients, brain-dead easy preparation, and microwave cooking. The goal is to produce near-restaurant-quality dishes with minimal expense and effort. It may be shocking, but dorm rats are generally poor and lazy. I can't believe that it has taken me this long to start posting recipes like this.

New Year Stew
Ringing in the new year calls for blackeyed peas, greens and pork. Oh, and that means that we must include cornbread on the side. This might just be a new tradition here at Daddio's house. I call it a stew, but it's more like a really thick soup, or I suppose you could even call it a form of chili. No matter what you call it, I call it good and the family concurred. It's one of those simple hearty comfort foods that fills the house with airborne deliciousness even before you eat it.

Roasted Vegetable & Toasted Orzo Soup
Soup season is all but over for me. I've always seen soup as a decidedly winter dish, so this is probably my last soup hurrah until fall. The title is self-explanatory. It's a medley of roasted vegetables, toasted orzo and grilled chicken in a light chicken and tomato broth. I was tempted to call it "Roasted, Toasted & Grilled Chicken Soup", but that seemed sort of silly. In any event, it's pretty tasty and good for you.
