Barbecued Sweet Potato Pie
Yes, you read that right, it's a barbecued sweet potato pie. It's not barbecued because I cooked the whole pie in the smoker -- just the sweet potatoes for the filling. I mentioned in an earlier post that I conducted an experiment, and this is it. In reality, the idea for this pie is what sparked the earlier recipe. Despite sounding odd, the results were very good. The pie is very rich and has a subtle smokey flavor. It's so subtle that I think some might not even notice.

Braised Nectarines with Champagne Honey Caramel
Here is a simple but elegant summer dessert that I made up as I went along last night. I'm not typically a dessert-making kind of guy, but I spied a flat of nectarines on the counter and a cast iron skillet on the stove, and the gears started turning. I initially served these on top of vanilla ice cream, but my wife said the flavors sort of clashed. However, the girlies devoured theirs, so go figure. I tried one plain and it was pretty darned good.

Candied Bacon & Praline Ice Cream
Earlier this month I posted my Pig Pralines recipe and I promised that they would be used in ice cream. Well, the time has come and here it is. This is a serious experiment in porcine dessert indulgence. It's rich and creamy homemade vanilla ice cream with tidbits of pig candy and bacon-infused pralines riddled throughout. The savory, sweet and slight spiciness of the bacon are magical with the cool creaminess of the ice cream.
